Winter
Tesla preconditioning, explained.
Preconditioning is the single best winter habit for a Model Y Standard. It warms the cabin and battery while you're still plugged in, so the energy comes from the wall, not your range.
Three ways to do it
- From the Tesla app: turn on climate a few minutes before you leave. Use Defrost Car for ice.
- Scheduled Departure: set a departure time in the car's charging settings so it finishes charging and preconditions on its own.
- Before Supercharging: navigate to a Supercharger in the car's map and the car warms the battery on the way for faster charging.

Why it matters for LFP
Cold LFP batteries charge and regen more slowly until warm. See LFP battery in the cold.
I film all of this on my own 2026 Model Y Standard. Watch on The Electric Standard on YouTube.
