Tesla Model Y Standard FAQ.
Short answers about the Model Y Standard RWD in Canada, from range and price to charging, rebates and Ontario rules
What is the Tesla Model Y Standard?
It's the entry-level, single-motor rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Model Y sold in Canada for the 2026 model year, based on the refreshed "Juniper" Model Y. Canadian cars are built at Tesla's Berlin factory. See the full Model Y Standard specs.
What is the Model Y Standard's range in km?
463 km rated range for the Canadian Model Y Standard RWD. Real-world range is lower at highway speeds and in winter; see Model Y Standard winter range.
How fast is the Model Y Standard 0–100 km/h?
7.2 seconds to 100 km/h (manufacturer figure), with a 201 km/h top speed. It's the slowest current Model Y, but it doesn't feel slow in GTA traffic.
How much is the Model Y Standard in Canada?
$49,990 CAD MSRP before freight and PDI (about $2,500) and HST, as of October 2026. Prices change often, so confirm on Tesla's Canadian site. Compare trims on Model Y Standard vs Long Range (Premium).
What battery does the Model Y Standard RWD use?
An LFP (lithium iron phosphate) pack. Published capacity figures differ (about 63–64 kWh depending on the source), so treat the exact number as unconfirmed.
How fast does the Model Y Standard charge?
Up to about 175 kW peak at a Supercharger, versus 250 kW on the Premium trims. At home it accepts up to 11 kW AC on Level 2.
Can I charge the Model Y Standard to 100%?
Yes. Tesla's guidance for LFP batteries is to charge to 100% regularly, at least once a week, which makes daily home charging simple.
Model Y Standard vs Premium: what's the difference?
The Premium AWD adds a second motor, about 542 km of range, 4.8 s to 100 km/h and a richer interior for $15,000 more at list price. Full table on Model Y Standard vs Long Range.
Is the Model Y Standard the same as the Model Y Juniper?
It's built on the refreshed Model Y (code-named Juniper), so most Juniper accessories fit, but check each listing says "Standard", because some trim pieces differ.
Can the Model Y Standard tow?
Unconfirmed. Published Canadian figures conflict, and tow-hitch availability on the Standard varies, so check Tesla's Canadian design studio before you count on it.
Does the federal rebate apply to the Model Y Standard?
Only if the final transaction value is $50,000 or less (EVAP rules). Check the official EVAP vehicle list and your final price. See Rebates.
How much does it cost to charge at home in Ontario?

Not always. Level 1 adds 3–8 km per hour (NRCan). Many daily drivers still prefer Level 2 for 16–50 km per hour.
How much range will I lose in winter?
NRCan says up to 25–30% in extreme cold. CAA's winter test saw 14–39% below official range across 13 EVs.
Can I drive alone in the HOV lane?
Yes, with Ontario green licence plates. They're optional, cost the same as regular plates, and are issued at ServiceOntario.
Does it need oil changes or regular servicing?
No oil changes. Tesla recommends tire rotations, filters, wipers and brake checks at set intervals. See Maintenance.
Are the accessories on this site real recommendations?
Yes. Every item on the accessories page is something I bought and use in my own Model Y Standard. Items I didn't like are left off.
