Best winter tires for the Model Y Standard.
The Model Y Standard is rear-wheel drive, so proper winter tires matter more than anything else for a GTA winter. Here's how I'd pick a set.
Size
The Model Y Standard RWD comes on 18-inch wheels with 235/55R18 tires, per published specs. Confirm the size printed on your own tire sidewall, and the load index on Tesla's door-jamb placard, before you buy.
What to look for
- The three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol, the real winter-tire certification.
- A load index that meets or exceeds the placard (EVs are heavy; many tires come in XL versions).
- Studless ice-and-snow tires for GTA conditions; studs are restricted in southern Ontario Unconfirmed.
- A separate set of wheels makes seasonal swaps cheaper and protects your stock rims.
Popular studless lines to cross-shop
General recommendations, not tested by me yet: Michelin X-Ice Snow, Bridgestone Blizzak, Nokian Hakkapeliitta and Pirelli Ice Zero lines are widely sold in Canada. Check each is available in 235/55R18 with the right load index Unconfirmed.
Ontario tips
Many Ontario insurers offer a winter tire discount Unconfirmed. More cold-weather advice in the Model Y Standard winter range guide and preconditioning guide.
I film all of this on my own 2026 Model Y Standard. Watch on The Electric Standard on YouTube.
