Model Y Standard vs Hyundai Ioniq 5.
I bought a 2026 Tesla Model Y Standard RWD in Richmond Hill. Here's how it stacks up on paper against the Hyundai Ioniq 5 for Canadian buyers, in CAD, using published Canadian figures.
| Tesla Model Y Standard RWD | Hyundai Ioniq 5 | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting MSRP (CAD) | $49,990 | $54,999 (Standard Range AWD); about $56,499 (Long Range RWD) Unconfirmed |
| Rated range | 463 km | 354 km (SR AWD), 488 km (LR RWD) |
| 0–100 km/h | 7.2 s | Unconfirmed |
| Peak DC charging | About 175 kW | Unconfirmed |
Prices are starting MSRPs before freight/PDI and HST, checked October 13, 2026. Trims and prices change often; confirm with Tesla and the dealer. Figures marked Unconfirmed differ between sources.
What actually matters in Canada
The biggest practical difference for GTA road trips is charging. My Model Y plugs straight into Tesla's Supercharger network, with live availability and pricing in the car. Other brands can now use many Superchargers too, but often need an adapter and Tesla app access, and availability varies by site.
The Ioniq 5 uses an 800-volt platform and starts higher in price than the Model Y Standard. Its Long Range RWD has more rated range than my car on paper, but costs more. Hyundai also has a much larger dealer network for service, while Tesla relies on service centres and mobile service.
Which one would I buy?
If you want a traditional dealer and like the Ioniq 5's retro design, it's a great EV. For the lowest price into an EV SUV with native Supercharging, the Model Y Standard is the one to beat.
See the Model Y Standard specs, run your costs in the Tesla vs gas cost calculator, and check what rebates still apply.I film all of this on my own 2026 Model Y Standard. Watch on The Electric Standard on YouTube.
