Model Y Standard vs Volkswagen ID.4.
I bought a 2026 Tesla Model Y Standard RWD in Richmond Hill. Here's how it stacks up on paper against the Volkswagen ID.4 for Canadian buyers, in CAD, using published Canadian figures.
| Tesla Model Y Standard RWD | Volkswagen ID.4 | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting MSRP (CAD) | $49,990 | Sources differ: $47,495 to $48,495 (Pro) Unconfirmed |
| Rated range | 463 km | 443 km (Pro) |
| 0–100 km/h | 7.2 s | Unconfirmed |
| Peak DC charging | About 175 kW | Unconfirmed |
Prices are starting MSRPs before freight/PDI and HST, checked October 13, 2026. Trims and prices change often; confirm with Tesla and the dealer. Figures marked Unconfirmed differ between sources.
What actually matters in Canada
The biggest practical difference for GTA road trips is charging. My Model Y plugs straight into Tesla's Supercharger network, with live availability and pricing in the car. Other brands can now use many Superchargers too, but often need an adapter and Tesla app access, and availability varies by site.
The ID.4 is the comfort-first choice with a softer ride. On the published Canadian figures it has less rated range than the Model Y Standard (443 vs 463 km) at a similar price.
Which one would I buy?
The ID.4 is a nice, quiet SUV, but for similar money the Model Y Standard has more rated range and native Supercharger access.
See the Model Y Standard specs, run your costs in the Tesla vs gas cost calculator, and check what rebates still apply.I film all of this on my own 2026 Model Y Standard. Watch on The Electric Standard on YouTube.
